FREEMAN HOVER began his radio announcing career at KCSR in Chadron, Nebraska in the mid-50s.
(In most books, he is usually incorrectly named "Hoover")
November 2nd, 1957 - The Biggest Show Of Stars ‘57 show was at the Arena Auditorium in Denver, CO for 12,000 people. After the show, some of the artists partied in Eddie Cochran’s room at the Albany Hotel, where during the morning hours Freeman conducted some interviews to take back to KCSR.
Conducted in Eddie Cochran’s room, the interview was fairly informal & has been released officially on two CDs, "That's What They Tell Me" on Rollercoaster, as well as "From Clovis To California - The Crickets" on ROckstar, both European releases. The recorded interview lasts 8 minutes.
Below is the original photo, uncropped & from Freeman’s negatives, one interesting note is that Buddy rarely let himself be photographed with a cigarette as seen here.
Freeman, JI Allison, Eddie Cochran & Jimmy Bowen having fun
(Unreleased)Freeman adds this note:
"Buddy isn't in this one because he used my camera and shot the picture!
In retrospect, all I can say is "dang." Dang that he is not in it, dang that I didn't take one
of Buddy and Eddie together and also Buddy Knox that night."
Interesting note here too, that Buddy & Eddie were shopping together earlier in the day & bought the same shirts...(note the collar) Buddy wore it during one of his popular photo shoots, as did Eddie in one of his sessions too!
After 5 years at Chadron, Freeman transferred up to Williston, North Dakota where he worked for 2 years...then to Denver, and finally to Phoenix, Arizona.Freeman currently resides in Tucson, Arizona (and regularly visits this site!).
